National Filet Mignon Day

It's another yummy to the tummy day today. Filet mignon is French for tender fillet.  They are very fast cooking beef cuts taken from the center of the tenderloin.  They are cooked in all sorts of ways, accompanied by veggies, with salad, fries, deep fried potatoes, and sometimes wrapped in bacon.  It is said that American author O. Henry first used the term in his book "The Four Million" written in 1906.  Man has been eating beef since prehistoric times as shown on cave paintings done by our ancestors who lived in caves.  It was around 8,000 BC when cattle started to be domesticated, and that's when the consumption of beef went on the rise. In a related story, Aotearoa New Zealand's tastiest steak has been named recently in the Beef + Lamb New Zealand Steak of Origin competition.  Tim & Kelly Brittain from Otorohanga have been awarded the 2017 Grand Champion title for their Angus steak.
